New 1/2 hr. web class added to the File & Serve roster!

File & Serve will now be offering a monthly 1/2 hr. web class on "Case & Party Management".  Learn how to request service list changes through the application so it remains updated.  This class will show how to add/delete parties & add/substitute attorneys.  Class dates vary, but the class time will be 12:00 noon (eastern).  Visit the Resource Ctr./Education & Training section in File & Serve for class dates and to register.  Upcoming dates are:  February 25 and March 25!

San Francisco Superior Court Realizes Substantial Time and Cost Savings by Implementing LexisNexis® File & Serve in Asbestos Litigation

Results In Increased Work Productivity And Substantial Time Savings For Court’s Staff

A little-known fact about the San Francisco Superior Court is that it carries the largest asbestos litigation caseload of any of California’s 58 Superior Courts. The Court has more than 1,660 active pending cases, which account for about two-thirds of the asbestos caseload in the state.

"As far back as 1998, we were looking for a way to leverage technology in order to help manage the massive amounts of documents involved in complex litigation," said Gordon Park-Li, chief executive officer of the San Francisco Superior Court. "This was of great concern to us because of the large number of asbestos cases filed here in San Francisco."

The Court’s research indicated that the trend in asbestos filings was likely to continue—and perhaps accelerate—in the coming years. Indeed, to this day, national forecasts indicate that the pool of claimants is not yet dwindling. The Congressional Budget Office estimates that another 1.7 million claims will be filed nationwide over the next three decades. These statistics are telling for a Court that will continually face the challenge of devising strategies for the fair administration of justice and the efficient handling of cases that often involve multiple defendants and insurance companies. more

Delaware Court of Chancery Uses File & Serve to Improve Efficiency of Court’s Workflow and Help Delaware Attorneys Better Serve Clients

The Delaware Court of Chancery is widely recognized as the nation’s preeminent forum for the determination of business disputes. The Court has official jurisdiction to hear and determine all “matters and causes in equity” involving businesses with legal standing in the state of Delaware. In light of the fact that more than 50% of U.S. public corporations—including 60% of Fortune 500 companies—are incorporated in the state of Delaware, the reality is that the Court of Chancery handles litigation involving thousands of corporations and other business entities through which a vast amount of the world’s commercial affairs are conducted.

As with other courts in the U.S., the Delaware Court of Chancery experienced a significant rise in litigation in the 1980s, which continued to escalate into the 1990s. The Court of Chancery officials decided it was time to make a change in their manual system of paper filings.

"The paper filing of documents for the cases in our docket had just become overwhelming for us to manage, both in terms of the workload requirement for the court clerks and the storage requirements for the physical files,” said Chancellor William Chandler. “I met with the vice chancellors to discuss what would be involved with making a switch to electronic filing.”

The Court of Chancery selected File & Serve from LexisNexis® and designated it as the official e-filing service for certain categories of document-intense corporate litigation filed with the Court. According to Chancellor Chandler, the benefits realized from the implementation of File & Serve were vast and immediate. more

WV Mass Litigation Celebrates One Year Anniversary with LexisNexis File & Serve

EBay Inc. v. Craigslist Inc.: Ownership Battle to be aired in DE Court of Chancery

The trial in an ownership dispute between internet giants EBay and Craigslist, which is being litigated in the Delaware Court of Chancery, began on Monday, Dec. 7, 2009.
